Become an Archiver

This  section was conceptualised by the curators' experience in attempting to process and make sense of the archive. It also comes out of a recognition of the imbalance of information on artists and other actors associated with FUBA.

The curators invite you to participate in filling the gaps and thickening existing archival material by sharing images, texts, stories, audio, and experiences that relate or respond to the artists, artworks and institutions present in the archive.

Mbembe (2002) points to the fact that archives are tied to the buildings in which they are housed. Keeping this is mind, we also consider how the opportunity to present this show online extends the possibilities for engaging with the FUBA archive beyond the JAG building.

The online space also allows for stretching ideas around what is considered archivable, and who has the potential to contribute to the archive. Inspired by Mél Hogan's text The Archive as Dumpster (2015) in which she explores the qualities of the online archive, this section translates the possibilities of accumulation the online presents.

We encourage visitors to engage with content presented in this show, and to contribute to this page by sending through texts, images, audio or video that relates or responds to FUBA, the artists, artworks and institutions present in the archive.

This also falls into the attempt to re-member the archive - undoing the orderly, selective, methodical archive and making it temporarily fluid, malleable and open (Opper 2014; Hogan 2015; Mbembe 2002; Schwartz & Cook 2002)
